Frequently Asked Questions

About Reverse Osmosis

What is reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water filtration process that uses pressure to push water through a semi-permeable membrane, removing dissolved solids and many common contaminants. Most home RO systems use multiple filter stages before and after the membrane.

What's the difference between a countertop and under-sink RO system?

A countertop RO system sits on your counter and connects to your existing faucet — no drilling or plumbing required. An under-sink RO system installs beneath your sink with a dedicated faucet and typically requires drilling one hole in your sink or countertop. Countertop systems are ideal for renters; under-sink systems are better for homeowners who want a permanent solution.

What is a tankless RO system?

A tankless RO system produces filtered water on demand without storing it in a pressurized tank. This saves under-sink space and eliminates the need to maintain a storage tank. Tankless systems typically require electricity to operate.

Do I need a plumber to install an RO system?

Countertop RO systems require no plumbing — they connect directly to your faucet. Under-sink systems can usually be DIY-installed with basic tools, but some people prefer to hire a plumber. Always verify installation requirements before purchasing.

Products & Compatibility

How do I know which replacement filters fit my system?

Most standard under-sink RO systems use 10" x 2.5" filter housings and a standard 1812-size membrane. Check your system's manual or the filter housing label for sizing. When in doubt, contact us before ordering.

What does a TDS meter measure?

A TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter measures the concentration of dissolved solids in your water, expressed in parts per million (ppm). It's commonly used to check RO system performance. Note: a TDS meter does not identify specific contaminants.

How often should I replace my RO filters?

Pre-filters (sediment and carbon) are typically replaced every 6–12 months. The RO membrane is typically replaced every 2–3 years. Post-carbon filters are typically replaced annually. Always follow your system manufacturer's recommendations.

Shipping & Orders

How long does shipping take?

Orders are typically processed within 1–3 business days. Delivery times vary by location and shipping method selected at checkout.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes — free standard shipping on orders over $50.

What is your return policy?

Please see our Return & Refund Policy for full details.

Water Quality

Can I use an RO system during a boil-water advisory?

During an active boil-water advisory, always follow your local utility or health department's official instructions first. Use bottled water or boil tap water as directed by local officials, even if you normally use a home water filter. Home RO systems are designed for everyday drinking water filtration, not as a substitute for official emergency guidance.
